GORE BAY—Over the past few weeks there have been several incidents of vandalism carried out in Gore Bay. The Manitoulin OPP is investigating the incidents and hopes to find the individuals involved, while Mayor Ron Lane says once the culprit(s) are found they should be charged for their actions.
“Unfortunately we have had several incidents of vandalism in the town recently,” said Mayor Ron Lane. “And this past weekend (July 13-14) the damage has been the most severe thus far.”
Mayor Lane explained, “someone cut down both nets at the tennis courts with a wire cutter, used a blow torch to burn them and then threw them in the creek. We have also had solar lights down by the creek smashed. At the splash pad we have hockey nets that were set up and someone burned the twine in one of them.”
“The town has done a lot of work on the new washrooms (by the new pavilion) and someone punched out the screens for the windows,” continued Mayor Lane. “We have also had people knock down signs.” Culprit(s) have also pushed over several port-a-potties.
“The OPP have a few leads, and hopefully there will be charges laid. As far as I am concerned this type of stuff cannot be tolerated,” stated Mayor Lane.
