GORE BAY—The Masonic Lodge-Gore Bay No. 472 G.R.C. will be moving into a new location later this year, after Lodge members decided to sell its current building.
“We have sold our Lodge building,” said Scott McDougall, of the Gore Bay Masons, on Tuesday. “Sometime this fall we will be moving into our new location at the former Gore Bay Fire Hall at 8 Dawson Street, after the new owners of the building remodel the fire bays to accommodate us for our new Masonic Lodge location.”
Mr. McDougall acknowledged that it was hard for some of the members of the Lodge to agree with selling of their current building on Park Street in Gore Bay as they had been in the same location for many years and had done a lot of the construction of the building itself.
“There are some real good advantages to making these changes. One is that we will no longer have to take care of maintenance of the building location, no more snow removal, grass cutting or making repairs on the building. And the financial planning will be much easier in terms of overhead and having fixes expenses.”
“We will be in a newly renovated space, and it is in a great location,” said Mr. McDougall. “The change will be positive and is a move toward the further longevity of the Lodge.”
Mr. McDougall added that the Masons have been in their current building location since the 1980s with the club members basically constructing the building themselves after having the land donated for the building from Lauchie and Alma McDougall.
