Gore Bay man wins car in lottery

Terry Addison of Gore Bay won a new car, a 2019 Ford Fusion, in a Canadian Cancer Society lottery earlier this month.

GORE BAY—The phrase ‘you’ll never win if you don’t buy a ticket’ fits very well for a Gore Bay man who won a car in a Canadian Cancer Society lottery earlier this month.

“I didn’t believe the lady from the Cancer Society when she called to tell me I had won a car,” stated Terry Addison of Gore Bay on Monday. “She told me the ticket number, and that was right, and said I had won the draw for a car on November 15.”

Mr. Addison had been notified that the car he won was a 2019 Ford Fusion. “No, I’ve never won anything like this before,” he told the Recorder.

“The Canadian Cancer Society holds a calendar lottery every year, and I purchase a ticket ($100) every year,” said Mr. Addison. “Every day they hold a draw for cash prizes and draws are held for different vehicles several times during the year.”

“I can’t believe I won,” said Mr. Addison. “It’s nice, this type of thing doesn’t usually happen to me.”

While his name and ticket was drawn for the 2019 Ford Fusion vehicle, as of Monday Mr. Addison had not decided if he would take the car or the alternative cash prize. “I’m not sure, but I will probably take the cash. The car is probably too small for us,” he said, pointing out the cash amount would be quite a bit less than the base price ($29,000) of the car. “And the Cancer Society makes more if vehicle winners take the cash instead.”

Proceeds raised from the Canadian Cancer Society Fall VIP Lottery and Cash for Kids Calendar Lottery go toward making a difference in the fight against all type of cancers.
