Gore Bay fish hatchery completes successful season

GORE BAY—It has been a very successful season of raising and stocking Chinook salmon for the members of the Gore Bay Fish and Game Club (GBFGC).

Members of the club planted the last of the Chinook salmon that had been raised in the Gore Bay hatchery this past fall-winter, this past Monday evening.

“We planted 18,000 Chinook salmon in Gore Bay, in the bay just behind the hatchery,” Ches Witty, manager of the fish hatchery and a member of the GBFGC, told the Recorder on Tuesday morning.

“We had quite a few people out to help stock the fish and those who were interested in seeing the fish being stocked,” said Mr. Witty.

This latest fish plant brings the total number of Chinook salmon raised at the hatchery and stocked in area waters, including Gore Bay, Meldrum Bay and Kagawong to 88,000 this year.
