Gore Bay Fire Department car wash fundraiser a huge success

GORE BAY—The Gore Bay Fire Department held its most successful car wash fundraiser recently, thanks to support from the local community. Proceeds from the event will go toward helping the fire department purchase much-needed equipment.

“It was busy. We ended up washing four vehicles at once at a time for quite a while during the day,” said Fire Chief Mike Addison. “This was our biggest car wash fundraiser yet, and our best in terms of being a money maker. We had most of our firefighters out for the event which was good.”

Mr. Addison explained the fire department will use the proceeds from the event, “to purchase personal protection equipment. This includes for example coats, pants, boots and helmets,” he said noting, “it costs $3,600 to equip one firefighter, and this does not include purchasing things like radios and air packs.”

Firefighter Justin Harris organized the car wash fundraiser on June 10, and a similar event will take place later this summer. Approximately $2,300 was raised at this recent event.
