MINDEMOYA—The Walker family of Gore Bay has made their annual family donation to the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC).
“On the National Day of Giving, November 29, the MHC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made health care a priority in this community with the contribution of your generous donations,” a MHC release states.
“Today, Paula Fields MHC president and chief executive officer attended the Mindemoya Hospital chemotherapy suite with members of the Walker family, Gwen McDonald and Lou Addison.
The family of Carmen and the late Herb Walker made their annual $1,000 Christmas donation, this year in support of MHC and specifically the Mindemoya chemotherapy unit. The donation was in honour of a family member, Sandy McDonald, who lost his cancer battle in July, 2022,” explained the release.
“Having a chemotherapy unit closer to home on the Island can lessen cancer patients’ travel,” said Ms. Addison. “It is all about improving their quality of life to make things easier for them. It feels good if we can help others with their cancer journey.”
Ms. Fields said, “Thank you so much to the Walker family for your kind and generous donation. I am always humbled by the sense of community on Manitoulin.”
