Gore Bay awards tender to see two streets paved

GORE BAY—Gore Bay council has given its approval for paving of two streets that have long needed work.

“The town had put out a tender for paving to be carried out that will cover the area from the corner of Wright Street to Doc Strain Boulevard including the cul-de-sac,” said town treasurer Michael Lalonde, at a council meeting last week.

Mr. Lalonde explained the town had received three bids paving suppliers in the local Sudbury area. It was recommended by staff that the bid from GIP Interpaving Ltd. In the amount of $115,744 be accepted. “We had budgeted $185,000 for the project, which will allow the OCIF (Ontario Community Infrastructure) funds to be retained for a future project.”

“It is always nice to see tenders come in at a lower cost than had been expected,” said Mayor Ron Lane. “It will be really nice to finally get this stretch of roads paved.”

The work is forecasted to be underway in late May or June, although town manager/clerk Harry Schlange said these dates could change, but the town will be notifying the public when the work is going to be carried out.

“The important thing is that it is going to happen this year,” stated Mayor Lane.
