Gore Bay Angel bus fundraiser winner drawn during Oktoberfest celebration

GORE BAY—The Angel Bus coordinating committee concluded a very successful fundraising campaign.

The winning ticket was drawn during the annual Split Rail Brewing’s Oktoberfest celebrations held on the October 7 weekend. “Split Rail’s Oktoberfest celebration was a happening place this past weekend, there were a lot of people on hand Saturday afternoon,” said Sandy Cook of the Angel Bus committee. She explained Pat Best drew the winning ticket on her ‘Hey Lolly, Lolly’ queen sized quilt and was “very happy it is going to stay on the Island this year.”

Lynn Quesnel, a resident of Ice Lake, won the beautiful quilt.

Ms. Cook noted the Angel Bus committee, “sold $4,660 in tickets for the quilt draw.”

“The new Angel Bus is running well and quite busy with medical and social outings. Fuel and repair costs are down significantly, and passenger comfort has dramatically improved,” explained Ms. Cook. “In the words of one of our frequent riders, ‘I can relax on the bus with the air-conditioning. It’s a quiet ride and much more comfortable for long trips.’”

Anna Barnet, a local creator of handmade arts and crafts, kindly donated six lap blankets to be used by Angel Bus passengers this winter, continued Ms. Cook. She explained, “each lap blanket has a hand warmer attached that contains a sensory item to keep fingers busy. The woolen blankets originally belonged to Heather Roy’s mother and were given to Anna for repurposing. Anna specializes in creating warm and cozy items made of no longer used sweaters and blankets, which you can find at her Northern Creative Studio in the Harbour Centre in Gore Bay.”
