Gordon resident donates sea bin of treasures toward golf sale auction-sale

GORDON/BARRIE ISLAND—A Gordon/Barrie Island couple has donated a sea bin full of all kinds of good quality items to the Manitoulin Island Country Club (MICC) for an auction sale that will take place this Saturday.

“We’ve moved and we decided to make this donation of items to the golf course,” said Marian (Hester) Bailey earlier this week. “Todd (her husband) and I feel it’s important to support the golf course and restaurant. It’s important to have and maintain this type of recreational facility for the West End of the Island.”

“We feel it is a great gesture by Marian and Todd to make this donation to help the golf course, and the bin is filled with many treasures,” stated Lee Hayden, reeve of Gordon/Barrie Island.

The collection of items is from three partial estates that the couple have inherited, said Gordon/Barrie Island Councillor Perry Patterson. He pointed out some of the items include ‘a ton’ of pinwheel crystal, lots of depression glass which comes in pink, yellow and green. There are a lot of different quilts of various sizes-both vintage and new, handhooked rugs, some that are up to 80-years-old, table lamps, antique clocks, knitting sewing and craft supplies, and quilt frames.

There is also a lot of kitchenware such as cups and saucers, a set of silverware and two sets of flatware; a vintage kitchen table from the 1970s; and many very good quality collectible knick knacks, tatted doilies, paintings, old and new stools, kids games, garden tools and much much, more.

“It is shaping up to be an awesome sale,” said Councillor Patterson.

The auction will begin at 1 pm at the MICC with Norm Morrell having volunteered to be the auctioneer.
