GORE BAY—The Gary Gilpin rink won the E.F. Priddle Memorial Trophy, a repeat of his rink winning the first event at the Gore Bay curling club men’s annual bonspiel, held this past weekend.
Mr. Gilpin skipped the rink which also included Dan Marois, Barry Wall and Moray Watson. Runner-up in the first event was the Greg Bond rink, which included his brother Mark Bond, and brothers Willis Sheppard and Wendell Sheppard.
The Gilpin team was presented with the E.F. Priddle Memorial Trophy by Cole McLaughlin, grandson of the trophy namesake. The rink also won a cash prize of $600, donated to the first event rink winners by Molly Anne McLaughlin.
After introducing his team members Mr. Gilpin said, “we had a really good weekend, we really enjoyed it and hope everyone did.”
Mr. Marois pointed out that he was playing on the Gilpin rink because Floyd Orford had a bad hip and couldn’t play.
In the second event the Matt Dumontelle rink which included Mark Zwaybart, Tim Lloyd and Pete Carz took the final over the Lew Lanktree rink. The Lanktree rink included Jack White, Al Lanktree and Dan Forest.
The third event saw the Reuben Allen rink defeat the Jack Ferguson rink in the finals. The Allen rink included Joe Cooper, Mike Wall and Ed Trimmer. The Ferguson rink included Murray Murray, Duncan Murray and Bob Nahwegahbow.
“We would like to thank all the teams for coming out this weekend. We had 16 rinks compete, which hasn’t happened for a while,” said Dan Marois, host of the award presentations. He thanked the ice crew, the volunteers who worked the bar during the weekend, Elva Carter and her kitchen crew for the great dinner Saturday evening and Max Burt for providing the roast beef for the dinner.
