MANITOULIN – Labour Day weekend comes, the kids go back to school and then wham, it’s fall. With the changing of the seasons, communities will start to bedeck their homes and businesses in full fall splendour in the hopes that they might be named a Harvest Glory Days champion.
Last year, for the sixth annual Expositor-hosted Harvest Glory Days fall decorating contest, Manitowaning took the top honours for a six-year sweep of the friendly competition in the large community division. Drivers can see the sign marking them as a Harvest Glory Days winning town at the tourist information booth on Highway 6. Taking a drive through Manitowaning is an impressive sight during Harvest Glory Days time and a great autumn activity.
Gore Bay was named runner-up in the large community category in 2018.
In the small community category, Silver Water took the top spot with an honourable mention going to past winner Spring Bay.
In the mid-size town category, Sheguiandah got its very first Harvest Glory Days sign thanks to the hard work of a few dedicated people. Providence Bay, which also did a fantastic job of decorating their community, was named runner-up for their efforts.
