Meldrum Bay
Elaine Bradley

Hi everyone. We’ve had a mix of rain, cold, sun and warmth.  We certainly need the precipitation. It was nice to finally get some rain. We hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend. We had turkey at my brother’s place here in Meldrum, ate too much, talked lots and had a great time.

Bow season has started. I was talking to a friend who reported that someone shot a buck in his first 15 minutes of hunting.

It is really exciting to see the ramps installed at the new docks at the waterfront. The project on the north side of the marina is pretty well complete and it looks really nice. The grass took well and the new lawn is green and lush just waiting for picnics next year. To complete the project we will now be doing some repair work on the boardwalk on the south side.

Friday, October 6 we had four tables at cards with 16 people attending. Karen Noble was high lady with 82 points and she also won the money jar. Congratulations, Karen. High man was Tom Rumley with 71 points; ladies’ lone hands were won by Myra Duncanson with 4; Lisa Townsend won men’s lone hands with five; most euchres were won by Anne Griffin with 10; Doug Carter won the juice.

Congratulations to Oliver and Barb Runnalls as they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 11.

On Thursday, October 5 there was a UCW meeting at St. Andrew’s United Church in Silver Water. We had lots of attendees and discussed many upcoming events.

Thursday evening, I ran euchre at the Silver Water Community Hall. Sara-Lyn Arnot was away for the week and had asked me to fill in for her. We had 25 people out to play.

Friday morning I cooked a turkey. Brenda Carter and I went to Little Current in the afternoon. We did a number of errands and still got home in time to have supper before going to Meldrum Bay to play euchre.

Saturday morning, Albert and I went to Gore Bay to participate in the Rotary’s fall auction. We had never seen so many donations for sale. Thank you to all the people who gave gift certificates, baked goods, artwork and the produce. Our squash crop was very small this year, so it was nice to be able to buy some. The Rotarians did a very good job.

Saturday night we had turkey dinner. I heard various groups got together to enjoy their Thanksgiving meals. Arthur Addison’s home included celebrating Tom and Linda Rumley’s 45th wedding anniversary.

Iris and Keith Clarke were here for the weekend. They had Jeff and Sara Moore and daughters Ellen and Abigail with them. Hayden Clarke was also here.

Kate Duncanson was here with husband Chip Tomisch to visit her mother, Myra Duncanson. Kate and Chip enjoyed fresh venison for supper at Marc Charonneau’s on Sunday night.

John Jagt spent the weekend with his family in Southern Ontario.

Stop 540 served turkey dinner or ham dinner on Sunday night. They were very busy.

Sunday night, I went to play six-handed euchre with Iris and Keith Clarke, Tom and Linda Rumley and Myra Duncanson.

Monday, the recycle bins were open. We had a visit with many residents who came out.

Our car went to Jewell’s Collision this week to get the repairs done caused when the deer hit the car almost a year ago.

I have soap for sale to donate to the hygiene kits being packaged in Meldrum Bay. Thank you to everyone who has donated over 600 bars this past week. Thank you to all the people who helped with the organization and packing of the kits and creating the quilts that are sent to Toronto to go to people in need all over the world.

There will be a Christmas themed market at our house on October 28 from 9 am to 12 noon.
