Kagawong

Team Fermeijer

Little known fact: Team Fergmeijer once worked as programmers for an autocorrect company. We were only there a brief time before being fried for no raison. Shortly after that, our doctor diagnosed us with “Autocorrect Syndrome.” We didn’t even know we were I’ll. Thank goodness it’s treatable. It’s really annoying to constantly be using words we didn’t Nintendo.

Last weekend’s NorthWords Festival was a fantastic success. Thank you to all the participants who took part, and to the volunteers who kept everyone on the same page when it came to the many events and activities over the course of the festival.

Congratulations go out to Meranda and Brett Varey on their newest addition! Big sister Paisley was a bit confused by the sheer lack of fur when baby Harper arrived home, but we are assured that they are getting along just fine now.

This is a busy week for birthday wishes! Jen C, Jen F, Mike C, Craig F, Meredith C-N and Dawn N have all turned 29 in recent days. Mid H also celebrated, though not quite 29. Happy birthday to you all! Keep an eye on the mail for a special gift from Team Fergmeijer. We ordered something special for your big day, but we had some issues with autocorrect, so just a heads up, you might be getting a birthday pheasant.

The Angel Bus fundraising committee is at it again, they are selling tickets for a chance to win a fabulous, hand-made quilt all summer long. You can find them at the Kagawong market on Wednesday and on Fridays at the Gore Bay market. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10. Funds raised supports the ongoing operating costs of the Angel Bus.

This was a tough column to write. We had a lot of funny jokes, but autocorrect kept ruining the lunchline. Have a great week!

Meldrum Bay

Elaine Bradley

The Art Tour was a great success. Three places here in Meldrum Bay participated. Our quilters, who prepare quilts and other items for disaster relief, were in Manitowaning and enjoyed talking to the people who came to look at their work. They were pleased with how many are working to contribute to Aid Projects around the world.

There are many beautiful boats at the docks, campers at the campsite, people biking and walking on the roads and the quads are exploring the trails. At the store people are munching down on hot dogs and ice cream. It’s a delight to see everyone enjoying themselves.

Rose Van Every is back after a visit to see family and friends in southern Ontario. She went to the St. Jacob’s Market. She visited the gravesites of her parents and brother at Thompson Park in Scarborough. It is nice to have her home and she says it’s nice to be home. Shirley Hoskins is here too, and we have been visiting and planning a get together. Scott Van Every is at his place.

This Sunday past, July 23, the Strawberry Social was at the Community Hall.

We are also busy planning the Annual Beef Barbecue, one of Meldrum Bay’s biggest events, to be held on August 5 from 5 to 7 pm.

Friday morning, Albert and I went to Gore Bay to deliver some of the cakes to the community hall where the Silver Water UCW was hosting the market cafe. There were 17 choices for everyone looking for a mid-morning treat and coffee or tea. Joyce Morrell, Kay Everett, Myra Duncanson and Brenda Carter looked after the cafe and did very well. We picked up my niece, Larissa Chevrette on our way to the cafe. She stayed at our house for two days before I returned her in time to work on Sunday at the Chocolate Factory.

On Friday Murray and Gladys Duncanson spent the afternoon in South Baymouth with Kathy Robbie who was at her daughter’s camp.

Friday evening I took Myra Duncanson, Donna Kay McDonald and Larissa to euchre in Meldrum Bay. Larissa played some of the rounds and I played the rest. We ended up winning the most loan hand prize for the ladies.

Lois Wismer spent Saturday in Manitowaning helping with the art tour.

Saturday, July 15 there was a “big bin” clean-up day at the fire hall and the bin went away with a lot of stuff in it. There will be one next year on the third Saturday in July for the township.

Saturday morning, the ladies gathered at the community hall to get a luncheon ready. At 1 pm there was a Celebration of Life for Audrey Harper. Her daughter Linda Harper Porter did a great job of telling her story and gave us some great laughs. There were a lot of family members in attendance and the community was well represented.
