Kagawong
Team Fermeijer
Turns out that Team Fergmeijer has a real issue with procrastination. We never seem to finish anything. It’s like we have a black belt in the partial arts. In an effort to overcome this, we have started making lists. And instead of calling it a ‘to do’ list, we’ve started writing ‘side quests’ at the top to make it seem more fun and interesting, and man has that not worked at all.
At the time of writing, there is a total fire ban in place in Billings Township due to the dry conditions. Check in with the township for up-to-date information (billingstwp.ca and FB.com/billingstownshipkagawong).

Speaking of authors, our most faithful readers know that yours truly have a cookbook in the works. It has been a definite learning process and although we’ve made a lot of mistakes along the way, adding more cheese than what a recipe calls for has never been one of them.
Happy 29th Birthday wishes go out to Morgan E, Trish T and two Kagawongians who really know how to crack us up. Don’t worry about aging: you only look as old as the last selfie you took!

It’s shocking to think that someone out there has eaten the most potato chips in the world, and they have no idea of their achievement. Have a great week!

The card game on Friday night was well attended with five full tables. High lady was Irene Trick with 99 points. High man was Steve Gugelyk with 88 points. Ladies’ lone hands went to Lois Wismer with five. Men’s lone hands went to Bob Benedict with five. Most euchres went to Brenda Carter with 11. The juice went to Diane Jones. The money jar was split between Steve and Irene. Congratulations to both. Those are amazing scores.
After the Sunday morning church service, a group from Meldrum went to Silver Water for their euchre tournament. Although some did well none of our Meldrum Bay people were among them. I did not go but they were telling me that they had a really great time. Everyone was really friendly and more interested in having a good time than in being competitive. I was also told that the lunch was really good.
I have been away in the Sault working with my brother to take care of my aunt’s affairs, who has passed away. It is so good to be back home again. The best part of being away is coming back.
It is very hot and dry and I am sure everyone is hoping for rain.
Have a great week.

Friday, May 26 we travelled to Meldrum Bay to play euchre. There were five tables. Congratulations to Irene Trick and Steve Gugelyk who split the money jar.
Saturday, May 27 we had a market in our yard in the morning. A lot of yard sale items were sold but there is still plenty more to sell. The UCW ladies have baking, yard sale items, the Best of the West cookbook, Robinson Township history books and more to sell. Doug Carter won the 50/50 draw for a second week in a row.
Saturday afternoon, the recycle bins were open from 1 to 2 pm. We had many households out to empty their containers. Both bins are full and need to be emptied before the next open date of June 12. Thank you to everyone who brought liquor containers. After they are sorted, we will get them turned in for the deposits.
Sunday, May 28 there was a church service in Meldrum Bay and then Silver Water. At 12 noon, there was lunch in the Community Hall. Eight tables of euchre players stayed for the tournament in the afternoon. The winners were tied. Murray Duncanson and Guy Bigras and DonnaKay McDonald and Joyce McDonald each had the highest score. Mike and Brenda Swank were just two points behind them and won the second prize. There were lots of winners of 50/50 draws and door prizes at the end of the day. Thanks to everyone for coming out.
Monday, we went to play euchre at the Burpee Complex. There were seven-and-a-half tables. They are working on organizing a tournament for June 25 with a potluck supper afterwards. Stay tuned for more details. It would be their last euchre until fall.
Wednesday, May 31 I went to Silver Lake for the first swim of the season. It was a very short swim but nice and refreshing.
Games night started on Wednesday at the Silver Water Community Hall.
Thursday, June 1 I went to the lake and had a longer swim. I was amazed at how much warmer the water felt a day later. I had a visit with David Hill and his partner Annie who were enjoying the water.
Thursday afternoon, the UCW meeting was held at 1:30 pm at the home of Sylvis Pfeifer. There were 15 in attendance, and they have a long list of events planned.
Thursday evening, we had five-and-a-half tables at euchre. Murray Duncanson won the money jar. Thanks to Sara-Lyn Arnot for the homemade loaves of bread for prizes and thanks to the people who donate snacks every week.
