FRANÇOISE OLIVIER (NEE TOUPIN)
April 20, 1929 – January 7, 2016
Born in Montreal, QC to Beatrice and Arcadius Toupin. Married in Vancouver in 1957 to Richard Henderson (parents George and Constance Henderson). Loved and cherished mother of Matthew (Clare, predeceased), Myra (Pierre), Beau (Diana) and Knox (Susan) Henderson. Grandmother to Alexandra, Daniel, Devon, Bronwyn, Jean, Anaïs and Bria. Françoise was an avid painter, textile artist and fashion designer. She loved to travel and was dedicated to the study of history and art. Her family time was divided in her later years returning to Montreal where she spent 10 years living with her sister Simone then leaving her treasured nieces and nephews behind to return to Vancouver for her final years. She visited Myra and her family every year for 27 years on Manitoulin Island. Often arriving by train, there was always someone to help her disembark just in time for the party to start. Françoise was a lot of fun and made friends wherever she went. She possessed an unshakeable “joie de vivre”. She loved her family and could never spend enough time with those she loved but tried in earnest to instill a love of life and the necessity of happiness into us all.
“The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved — loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves.”
― Victor Hugo
