WIIKWEMKOONG—Two Wiikwemkoong persons and two southern Ontario men have been charged with having $64,000 in drugs and firearms after a joint investigation carried out by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) and the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service.
The police report that shortly before midnight on Thursday, August 3, police executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a home on Genevieve Street in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.
“A search of the residence led to the seizure of over 175 grams of suspected crack cocaine, over 90 grams of suspected fentanyl and over 14 grams of suspected cocaine,” the police release explains. “The estimated street value of the drugs seized was over $64,000.”
A loaded handgun, ammunition and about $22,000 in cash was also seized in the search.
Two men, a 21-year-old and 38-year-old from Scarborough and two people, a 29-year-old and a 16-year-old from Wiikwemkoong are facing numerous charges including drug trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and having property obtained by crime.
The 16-year-old is also charged with failing to comply with a release order and is being held in custody and will appear in court at a later date.
The 38-year-old was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 5.
The two other people accused are being held and were scheduled to appear in court in Gore Bay on August 9.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
