Forty kilometre speed limit is being ignored

Little Current straight stretch is being used as a speedway

To the Expositor:

Coming into Little Current on Highway 540, the speed drops from 80 km/h highway speed to 60 km/h to 40 km/h. I believe that it was dropped to 40 km/h about two years ago and motorists can’t miss it with the big numbers or the sign. It must be true that familiarity breeds contempt. Very few cars, vans, pick ups and transports obey the speed limit. I am obviously not equipped with radar, but I do live on Worthington and walk a lot with a walking stick.

I would guess that at least 70 percent of motorists use the straight stretch as a speedway. If you are elderly and cannot walk quickly it is often difficult to cross the road.

I will make an exception for most of the tourists on motorcycles in the summer. They obey the speed limit.

Kudos also go out to Manitoulin Transport who have attentive, safe drivers.

Thank you for allowing me to voice my concern.
