There is no bogeyman
To the Expositor:
Well it has been a couple of weeks since my letter to the editor was printed. The silence from the chief and band council is deafening but not totally unexpected given their track record. Thus far, there have been no resignations from the chief or the band council, community meetings called or copies of the financial audits and band council minutes made available to band members. The mentality of the chief and council is, “if we don’t have a public meeting, we don’t have to answer all these questions.” I have received a lot of positive feedback from my letter and absolutely no one has approached to deny or refute what was written. Neither the chief and council nor their supporters have come forth. This is the group that stood vigil for 52 days loudly proclaiming to the world how terrible I was and how terrible things were on Sheguiandah First Nation. Where are these people now? Why are they so silent? The entire band council should resign and a by-election should be held. This would be the right thing to do but when has this “council” done the right thing? It was dishonest how members of council were elected and it is disgraceful how they are now conducting themselves. If this council truly believes in themselves and what they are doing then they should not have a problem resigning “en masse” and resubmitting their names for consideration in a by-election. However, there is no bogeyman or pending court case this time. Let’s see if they can get elected on their own merits.
Yours truly, Orville Aguonie Sheguiandah First Nation
