First Whitetail Deer Show a hunter’s dream this August 23 in Manitowaning

MANITOWANING—The Township of Assiginack’s first ever Whitetail Deer Show on Saturday, August 23 is almost upon us with so many exciting things happening at the show, starting with a lecture at 9 am with Keith Beasley of the hit TV show ‘Canada In The Rough’ and ‘Ontario Monster Whitetails’ magazine.

If you want to come and hear from an expert on how to hunt the big buck, you need to get your tickets in advance by dropping by or calling the municipal office. Separate tickets for the lecture are only $5 each. There is limited seating for the lecture, so get your tickets in advance.

The show starts at 11 am with a world class archer who will be demonstrating in the ball field adjacent to the Manitowaning arena. Vendors selling firearms and ammunition will be on-site with various displays including taxidermy, Manitoulin Gun Club, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and much more. There will also be some great contests with cash prizes to be won including a BB gun target contest for youth 7 and over, and a separate category for adults. The Whitetail Deer Show will supply the BB guns, but it’s up to the contestants to show just how good your aim and accuracy is. This event runs from 11 am to 2 pm, so make sure you give it a try.

A certified Foundation for the Recognition of Ontario Wildlife (FROW) measurer will be coming in to measure shed antlers for the ‘Biggest Shed Antler’ contest. All entries of antlers must be in by noon. The winner of this walks away with a $100 cash prize!

Bring in your ‘Best Trail Camera’ photo for a cash prize of $25, your ‘Best Hunting’ photo of you with your big buck, the gang at the hunt camp or another fun deer hunt photo and enter to win a $25 cash prize!

If you hunt, have camouflage or blaze orange clothing, bring in your unwanted hunting clothing and drop it off at the ‘Camo Swap’ table where you can swap it with some other clothing or purchase someone else’s at a cheap price.

Do you have that set of big buck antlers hanging on your wall but wish others could see your success? Bring them in and put them on display so that everyone may have that viewing pleasure.

There are refreshments available, ample parking and a guaranteed great time, so be sure to drop by and check out the Whitetail Deer Show sponsored by the Township of Assiginack on Saturday, August 23.

The show runs from 11 am to 4 pm, admission is adults $5, children 12 and over $3 and children under 12 free. For further information call the municipal office at 705-859-3196.
