First annual Chip in Fore Kids golf tournament at Rainbow Ridge Golf Course was a huge success!

One of the men’s division teams at the Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) first annual Chip In Fore Kids charity golf tournament.

MANITOWANING—Twenty-five four-member teams took part in Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) first annual “Chip in Fore Kids” charity golf tournament, held July 22 at Rainbow Ridge Golf Course in Manitowaning.

“We are holding our first annual “Chip in Fore Kids” one day 18-hole tournament with four person teams in three divisions: men’s, ladies’ and mixed. The funds raised will be used to support KGCFS programming for our children and youth and their families in activities within the Sudbury/Manitoulin region,” said Jessica Orr, communications and public relations person for KGCFS, prior to the tournament.

“We have a total of 25 teams (four players per team) taking part,” said Ms. Orr. “And we have four hole-in-one sponsors, and a grand prize of a 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk donated by Manitoulin Chrysler.”

“We also have three $10,000 hole-in-one prizes donated by Wikwemikong Anglers, 3rd Line Studio and Gen7 Fuel,” said Ms. Orr.

Denise Morrow, executive director of KGCFS said, “Miigwech to all participants, sponsors and KGCFS employees who helped support this first agency charity event.”

In the men’s division the team of Travis Assiniwe, Chase Assiniwe, Shaun Assinewai and Ryan Shawanda made up the winning team. In the women’s division the team made up of Kendra Madahbee, Charlene Assinewai, Steph Corbiere and Ashley D. took top spot. Meanwhile in the mixed divisions the team made up of Kelly Abotossaway, Cheryl Audette, Denis Audette and Lana Neville took top spot.

There were also several side game winners included in the day’s events. The prize for the men’s longest drive was won by Arron Assinewai on the seventh hole and Travis Assiniwe on the 18th hole. On the women’s side Justine Keeshig had the longest drive on the seventh hole while Kathleen Migwanabi won the prize for longest drive on the 18th hole.

There were also prizes for the closest shot to the pin. On the men’s side Denis Audette won the prize on the second hole with Shaun Assinewai winning for the 11th hole. Cheryl Audette was the winner in the women’s division on the second hole, while Carlene Assinewai was the winner for the t-shot closest to the pin on the 11th hole.

Jarrod Shawanda won the putting challenge with a putting total of 250.

After the tournament everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner with a local harvested meal in DDCX Kitchen prepared by Chief Joseph Shawana.
