Federal NDP riding nomination June 23

COPPER CLIFF—A Nickel Belt federal NDP nomination meeting will take place on Sunday, June 23 in Copper Cliff. Andreane Chenier, who was the New Democrat Party candidate in the Nickel Belt riding in 2021, was the lone uncontested nominated candidate for the Nickel Belt Federal NDP. With the federal riding boundary changes, the current Nickel Belt Riding will become the Sudbury East-Manitoulin-Nickel Belt when the next federal election is called.

Ms. Chenier was approved by the NDP party as the candidate but must now be approved by the riding association. The nomination was uncontested.

Ms. Chenier was the runner-up in the 2021 Nickel Belt riding federal election, behind the current Nickel Belt riding MP Marc Serre. She is already going door-to-door in preparation of an early election call.

The nomination meeting will be moderated by Nickel Belt MPP Frances Gelinas.

Carol Hughes, current MP for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, will be a guest at the nomination meeting. She will be acknowledged for her work and commitment to her constituents and the party.

The new riding boundaries will be on display at the meeting. These do not come into play until the (election) writ is dropped.

The nomination meeting will take place at 2 pm on June 23 at the CUPE 4705 Hall on 41 Veterans Road in Copper Cliff. The meeting is in person, however, for those that want to participate by Zoom they can do so by going to the link https://us06web.zoom.us/j/84508817517

The NDP is the first party in this new riding that has held a nomination meeting.
