Father Michael O’Donnell, S.J. died on August 5,2014 in the 77th year of his life and 56th year of religious life in Pickering, Ontario. Michael was born on April 16, 1938 in Montreal Quebec, son of William John O’Donnell and Grace Georgina Ducker. He entered the Society in Guelph in March 1959. He asked to study Theology at Regis College in 1972 and went on to priestly ordination in 1979. Pastoral work and parish work more specifically were to be his passion. Choné House and St. Anne’s Parish in Thunder Bay; Toronto –Our Lady of Lourdes; Tullamore – Ireland (Tertianship); Thunder Bay – St Andrews; Terrence Bay – St Andrew’s; Halifax – Canadian Martyrs’ Parish; St John’s Newfoundland – St Pius X. He left us very quickly and we are still in shock. He is missed by his family: Patricia Bibeau (sister); Carole Bibeau (niece); Mae Giroux (cousin); by his many friends and his Jesuit companions. Visitation was held at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street (South of Wellesley Street) on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm at St. Ignatius Chapel, Manresa Spiritual Renewal Centre, Liverpool Road North, Pickering, Ontario from 7 pm to 9 pm. Prayers were at 8 pm. Funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 520 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10 am. Interment at the Jesuit cemetery in Guelph, Ontario. In memory of Father O’Donnell, donations may be made to the Jesuit Development office, 43 Queen’s Park Crescent East, Toronto, Ontario, M5S 2C3.
