Fatal motor vehicle collision on Hwy 11 under investigation – Names of victims released

TEMAGAMI – On August 26, 2014 shortly before 9 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a Honda Pilot (SUV) on Highway 11 south of Temagami.

The tractor trailer was northbound while the southbound SUV crossed the centre line into the northbound lane where the head on collision occurred.

The four occupants of the SUV are from Timmins.  The driver, Craig BEDA, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The three passengers were Anne-Marie BEDA, 48, Michael BEDA, 20, and Willem BEDA, 16.  They were transported by the Temagami Ambulance to the hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Highway 11 was re-opened at 3:43 p.m.
