Farmer questions wisdom of interfering with nature and deer

To the Expositor:

There are two sides to every story. I really appreciate the Manitoulin Area Stewardship Council. They are a fine group of people, as I know most of them. My questions is: how many farmers are on the council and own farm land for living purposes?

As a farmer I’m wondering how the deer got this far for the last 100 years without any concern for them at all when all the winters were harsh.

Just a few short years ago I had 76 deer cleaning off my new seeding in the spring with a large financial loss after repairing the seed bed, huge cost of grass seed and grain and fertilizer and then no crop worth harvesting.

Yes, possibly some deer need help, but please not near me. Let nature take its course.
