Sheep seminar
OMAFRA, with support from the Ontario Sheep Marketing Agency (OSMA), is organizing another excellent Sheep Seminar, titled “Grow the market with more pounds of lamb: a profitable choice?”- the emphasis this year will be on encouraging sheep producers to consider whether they can expand the availability of lamb by growing lambs to heavier weights profitably. Dr. Joyce Van Donkersgoed will be speaking on feedlot lamb health. She operates a consulting feedlot practice in Picture Butte, Alberta where she provides herd health and research services to several large feedlots, including one lamb finishing feedlot and one large ewe flock. She is currently involved in a feedlot lamb mortality project and in the development of a sheep respiratory vaccine. The seminar is a full day program and will be held Thursday, October 29 just outside Alliston at the Nottawasaga Inn. The sheep seminar program will also be offered as a WebEx on October 29 in Napanee at the Napanee Lions Hall and to select locations in the North. More details to follow.
I would like to get a little assistance from you regarding possible attendance numbers for a presentation by Dr. Temple Grandin in Sault Ste. Marie. Dr. Grandin is an American professor of animal science at Colorado State University, best-selling author, autism activist and consultant to the livestock industry on animal behaviour The Algoma cattlemen have been informed that Dr. Grandin will be in the Soo on January 24, 2016 to make an evening presentation to the Sault Autism Foundation. Dr. Grandin is also speaking at the beef symposium in Guelph the day before. She will arrive in the Soo around the noon hour, and will be able to make a presentation to producers at approximately 3 pm.
