‘Exceptional quality’ calves at Livestock Exchange


ASSIGINACK—The Manitoulin Livestock Exchange in Assiginack had another successful sale on November 2, with seven cows, 16 cow/calf pairs, 42 steers and 45 heifers on offer.

Top quality exotic bred cows sold for between $1,350 and $1,800 with top quality cow/calf pairs selling between $1,375 and $1,900. Much of these good quality, quiet cows were from the Walter Reid farm, according to the livestock report.

Also for sale were 45 heifers with prices ranging from $810 for cows 400 to 499 pounds to $1,020 over 900 pounds. Steers fetched $915 for cows weighing 400 to 499 pounds with steers weighing over 1,000 pounds coming in at $1,300.

“Exceptional quality calves—a strong sale,” the report reads. “Four holstein steers at $985, $970, $970 and $600.”

The next sale date is Saturday, November 30 at the Manitoulin Livestock Exchange in Assiginack, just south of Manitowaning on Highway 6.
