Dear Little One!
Dear little one, why did you go
So hastily from me?
Our first-born, our beloved,
Our hearts had need of thee!
Dear little one, in faith we know
Our Father cares for you!
Yet we are often lonely
For your presence with us, too!
Dear little one, perhaps God had
Some special task for thee;
Perhaps to set the topmost star
Upon Heav’n’s Christmas tree!
Dear little one, what privileges
You hold above us here,
For you know well the Lord, our God,
Whose spirit we hold dear
You seem to hold a golden cord
Which draws us nearer to our Lord,
Dear little one.
