Environment Canada Alerts for: Manitoulin – Blind River – Killarney

Warnings

5:00 AM EDT Wednesday 23 March 2016

Snowfall warning in effect for:

•Espanola – Killarney

•Manitoulin Island

Snowfall, with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

A Colorado low is expected to bring a significant snowfall to the regions Thursday and Thursday night.

The low is expected to track northeast across the Lower Great Lakes on Thursday then into Northern New England by Friday.

Snow is expected to reach the Bayfield Inlet to Algonquin Park areas overnight Wednesday, then Northeastern Ontario on Thursday morning. It will become heavy at times with total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm expected by the time it ends by Friday morning. Locally higher amounts are possible in some locales.

In addition, strong and gusty northeasterly winds will whip up the freshly fallen snow in exposed areas, causing very low visibility in blowing snow.

Travelling conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly after the snow arrives. Motorists should be prepared for hazardous winter driving conditions due to low visibility and rapidly accumulating snow, and adjust travel plans accordingly.

The snow will end by Friday morning as the low pressure area moves away.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ONStorm.
