GORE BAY—Members of the Empower Martial Arts team did well at the Budoka Championships martial arts tournament held April 27 in Sudbury.

“Dane Blair, age 16, placed second in Kata and fourth in sparring,” said Sensei Anya Wright, of Empower Martial Arts, based in Gore Bay. “Sarah Joyce, age 11, placed second in sparring and third in Kata while Aria Wright, also 11, placed third in self defence and fourth in Kata. Tommy Joyce, eight years old, placed fourth in Kata and six-year-old Josh Joyce finished third in both sparring and Kata.”

“The competitors worked hard practicing and preparing for the tournament and should be very proud of themselves,” said Sensei Wright. She spent the day as one of the many judges at the tournament.
