Eight nominations for M’Chigeeng First Nation chief

M’CHIGEENG—There are eight candidates in the running for chief and 72 candidates have been nominated to fill the 10 seats on the M’Chigeeng council in the upcoming band chief and council elections. The nomination meeting was held Monday, February 13.

The eight candidates who have been nominated for the position of chief include incumbent Ogimaa Kwe Linda Debassige. Other candidates include Wayne Trudeau, Alan Corbiere, Marlene Debassige, Floyd Ense, Clyde Migwans, Thomas Hare and Renee Corbiere.

Those nominated for a seat on band council include Chelsea H. Cameron, Marko Debassige, Samantha Corbiere, Earl L. Debassige, Ryan Glen Corbiere, incumbent Dennis W. Corbiere, Jason McLeod, Pierre Debassige, Steven Debassige, Debbie Debassige, Wayne Trudeau, Allan Corbiere, Jade Peltier, incumbent Charles J. Cynthia Behm, electoral officer told The Expositor, “A nominee may accept a nomination in person at a nomination meeting or by signed written notice delivered to the electoral officer within seven days of the nomination meeting. All those who have been nominated for chief or council have seven days from the date of the nomination meeting to accept or decline the nomination.”

The election will take place March 27 with an advanced poll to take place March 22.
