Drugs and cash seized by Hearst OPP


HEARST –As part of an ongoing Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigation, the Hearst OPP and the James Bay Detachment Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers executed a search warrant on March 3, 2014, at an upstairs apartment on Front Street in the town of Hearst, Ontario.

As a result of the search, 1,146 grams of Cannabis Marihuana and 37 Percocet pills worth a combined street value of nearly $12,000 were seized from the residence, along with $16,600 in Canadian currency.

Further police investigation revealed that the owner of the residence was bound by court conditions, which he was found to be breaching at the time of the event.

As a result of the investigation, the accused and owner of the involved apartment, Ronald DIONNE, 60, of Hearst, Ontario, was arrested and charged on March 4, 2014 with three counts of drug possession, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and one count of Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, on March 5, 2014 and has since been released from custody. Ronald DIONNE is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst, on March 19, 2014, to answer to his charges.
