Douglas Leonard Lewis of Spring Bay passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the age of 72 years. Beloved husband of Mary-Alice (Reid) (married November 14, 1970) and dear father of Shawn (fiancé Kelly) and Alan (Andrea). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Logan, Alyssa, Alexis and Amelia. Doug was born to Leonard and Elsie (Middleton) and had many siblings, which includes Mildred (Leonard) Jewell both predeceased, Audrey (Delbert) Merrylees, Isabel (predeceased), Leah (Jim predeceased) Rayner, Pat (predeceased) (Joe) Baker, Shirley de Chevigny, Ken (Marlene), Gordon (Darlene), Garry (Shirley), Irwin (Mary), Merlin (Christine). Also remembered by his sister-in-law Margaret (Dave Cameron) Reid and brother-in-law John (Roxanna) Reid. Doug was born on September 8, 1942 at the Mindemoya Red Cross Hospital, to Leonard and Elsie (Middleton) Lewis. He grew up working on the family farm and later owning it. During his life, Doug lived in two different homes, he spent the first half of his life on Lot 12 Concession 12 and the second half of his life on Lot 10 Concession 12 in Campbell Township. Over the years Doug worked for Norris Pearson Farming and Trucking, John S. Paisley and Son Farms, Abbott Townsend and Wilson Sawmill, Earle Gilmore Construction, J. C. Brisson Construction and Taylor Sawmill. From time to time Doug would occasionally work for Grant Oakes, Manitoulin Livestock Annual Fall Sale, George Breathat, Walt McDonald, Jack Hale, Dave McAllister, Scott McDermid and the Legge Brothers. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbours and family. A graveside service was held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 1 pm at Grimesthorpe Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary – Chemo Fund as expressions of sympathy.
