Double gold!!!

The Team Ontario Aboriginal Under-18 male and female hockey teams, which included several players, coaches and team staff from Manitoulin Island, both won the gold medal in their divisions. In photo is a group shot of the two teams together with their medals and championship banners. The Ontario female team included Ava Assinewai, Mackenzie Ferguson of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) and Sequoia Nebenionquit who has family ties to Wiikwemkoong.  Tommie Lee Recollet of Wiikwemkoong was a coach on the team. Kyle Ferguson of WUT was a member of the Ontario male team, along with Kohyn Eshkawkogan of M’Chigeeng First Nation. Ashton Pitawanakwat was an alternate on the team. Head coach and assistant coaches of the team were Brendan Biggers and Brent Assinewai, both of WUT, along with Dustin Peltier, general manager of the team. The annual tournament was held in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
