DOROTHY ROBERTA MCKENZIE

Dorothy Roberta McKenzie died suddenly on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Manitoulin Health Centre at the age of 66. Roberta set a great example through her hard work and dedication. She worked alongside Allen on the farm, delivering calves, the rural mail and her children, sometimes all in the same week. She spent several years on the Tehkummah town council and worked hard on the Leisure Services committee. She found reading, knitting, crocheting and Artex painting to be relaxing and tackled quilting again in the past few years. Since Allen died, she moved back “home” to Manitowaning, where she loved her new house and was so proud of the church addition that Burton built. She was so thankful for the time she spent at church and her work with the UCW–it was certainly a haven for her. She felt that she wasn’t deserving of the Life Membership that was to be bestowed on her. Although we will miss her, we know that she is happy to be reunited with the love of her life. Predeceased by beloved husband and friend Allen. Dear mother of Denise McKenzie and Robbie Shawana, Barbara and Dino Piuzzi, Burton and wife Heather, Michael and wife Patti, Kelly McKenzie. Devoted Grama to Jamie Pyette, David, Robert and Steven Piuzzi, Kristen and Brock McKenzie, Taylor, Samantha, Ethan McKenzie and Logan Blackwell. Loving sister of Bob and Jan Purdy and nephews Kristopher and Jeffrey Purdy. Aunt of many others. Dear friend of Faye Clarke. Visitation was from 2 pm – 4 pm and 7 pm -9 pm on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Island Funeral Home. Funeral Service was at 11 am on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Knox United Church, Manitowaning, Ontario. Burial at Hilly Grove Cemetery. Donations to either Island Hospital or to Knox United Church are appreciated. Arrangements entrusted with Island Funeral Home, Little Current.
