DORIS EILEEN ARMSTRONG (NEE PIDGEN)


Armstrong-DeathIn loving memory of Doris Eileen Armstrong (nee Pidgen), 84 years, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Health Sciences North. Beloved wife of Vern Clifton Armstrong predeceased 2004. Loving mother of Linda (Gerry), Gary (Jane), Susan (Kevin), Zilpha, Bonnie, Valerie (Carl), Glenn (Angie), Perry Lee (Lorraine) and Howard (Sherry). Cherished grandmother to many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear daughter of Harry and Sophronia (Harper) Pidgen both predeceased. Dear sister of Oliver, Annie, Richard, Morley, Stanley, J. D., and Arden all predeceased. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Mills Township on Manitoulin Island Doris married Vern Armstrong in Parry Sound in 1946. They moved to Sudbury in 1949. Doris was a very active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #564 Lockerby. She was a keen and accomplished card player. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and her creations are treasured by family members. She will be remembered as a very active and independent woman who was devoted to her loving family. Funeral Service was in the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:30 am. Friends called from 2 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday and after 10 am on Thursday. Cremation with interment in Silver Water Cemetery, Manitoulin Island was on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 1 pm. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
