DONALD ORION ASHLEY

In loving memory of Donald Orion Ashley who passed away at the age of 87 years on May 10, 2012 at the Manitoulin Centennial Manor, Little Current, Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Dorothea “Helen” Ashley. Survived by sister Hazel Roy of Little Current, nephew Keith Ashley (Roseanne) of Little Current, nieces Pamela Banks and Janet Ashley (Steve) both of Sudbury and Martha Storey (Gary) of Delta B.C. Also survived by sister-in-law Jackie Ashley, brother-in-law George Banks both of Sudbury and niece Bonnie McPhee of Toronto. Predeceased by sisters Thelma Ashley, Lena (Bubbles) Banks and Annie Ashley, brothers Joe, Ivan, Alfred Jr. and Jimmy and nephew James Banks. Also predeceased over the years by a succession of much loved pets, all Jack Russell Terriers all named Cricket. Born on Manitoulin Island to the late Alfred and Martha Ashley, Don left home at a very young age, joined the Canadian Air Force and served in WWII. Following that, he became a first class Stationary Engineer and, with his wife Helen, he lived and worked in Toronto most of his life, returning to his family and treasured cottage on Manitoulin at every opportunity. He enjoyed piloting his own aircraft for several years and he enjoyed a wide variety of crafts and activities around the house and cottage. He will be remembered as one who always had a project on the go. According to his wishes, Don will be cremated and a private family memorial will be arranged at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home, Sudbury, Ontario.
