Dismay expressed over the loss of downtown dumpsters

A decision unlikely to be good for the cleanliness of Little Current and surroundings

To the Expositor:

It was reported in the June 28 Manitoulin Expositor that the downtown dumpsters would be removed (‘Downtown dumpsters will not return for summer months,’ Page 3). The claim that people are driving from Sudbury to dump trash in Little Current defies any logic. We’ve used the receptacles a few times in the past and they were being used, no doubt, but that seems a good thing. Some abused it and maybe that should be the focus? There’s a lot of challenges providing services, but did leadership think about where the trash will go now as someone on a boat isn’t going to the landfill? Unlikely this is a good decision for the cleanliness of Little Current or the surrounding environment.
