Dismay expressed over Panther coach’s handling of parent’s email

Children can sense when they are being treated unfairly

To the Expositor:

Throughout the summer I was asked on more than a few occasions to bring my grandson out to Panther hockey tryouts in the fall. I didn’t really want to, my grandson was having fun and being successful in the house league. With a little more persuasion I brought him out. He made the team this fall, but so did all 10 skaters that came out for the skate.

After the first few games, I noticed my grandson was getting benched a lot more than ordinary. I started to regret paying the $1,300 registration fee for him to play on this team. My grandson’s mama sent an email to the parent representative with concern about my grandson’s development when she noticed him crying after a game. The response we received was upsetting. After a few days of reading the response, I am still upset. Why wouldn’t the coaching staff have voiced their concerns at any time prior to the email? As upsetting as the response was, it was a good thing to find out now. If my grandson’s mama had not sent the email to the parent rep we would never have known that this is how the whole coaching staff felt about my grandson.

Children can sense when they are being treated unfairly. I’m glad he’s been relieved of the stress of the coaching staff. I am not, however, happy with the coach’s handling of the email.
