SUDBURY—On October 8, a selection committee convened to select a Detachment Commander for the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sudbury Detachment. This process was to identify the replacement of retired Staff Sergeant Garry Mills. The committee was composed of members of the OPP North East Region Command Staff.
The selection committee is pleased to announce that Staff Sergeant Dan Esposto will fill the position of Sudbury Detachment Commander starting December 14, 2015.
Staff Sergeant Esposto has 30 years of policing experience. He has great awareness of local policing issues as the majority of his career has been in the Sudbury/Manitoulin area. His career began at the Little Current Detachment in 1985 where he served as a frontline officer until 2001. In March 2001, he was promoted to sergeant and worked at the Sudbury/Espanola Detachment. In September 2002, he returned to Manitoulin Detachment. In 2011, Staff Sergeant Esposto was promoted to his current role as Detachment Commander at Sault Ste. Marie Detachment. Staff Sergeant Esposto has also served 14 years as a member of the Sudbury OPP Emergency Response Team.
“I am pleased to be able to continue to serve the people of northern Ontario in this new role. Policing continues to evolve and I believe that through community mobilization and embracing change we can improve the service we provide on the highways and in the communities of the Sudbury Detachment area.”
