Cupcake fundraiser a sweet success for Island Animal Hospital Stray Animal Fund

MINDEMOYA—This year’s Island Animal Hospital cupcake fundraiser proved to be a great success, generating almost one thousand dollars for the hospital’s Stray Animal Fund.

“We cheered up a lot of winter-weary faces, and second, we realized that our ‘poo emoji’ cupcakes were top sellers,” said veterinarian Dr. Janice Mitchell.

“We raised $950 for our Stray Animal Fund. Our little island is full of generous, animal-loving folk and we really want to thank them all—the cupcakes will return in 2020!” she said.

There were 340 cupcakes ready for sale by the time all the preparation was finished on Friday night, with each one hand-decorated by a member of the hospital’s team.

“In total, we used up 10 pounds of butter, 10 kilograms of icing sugar and four blocks of cream cheese mixed in there as well,” said Dr. Mitchell.

A total of 13 people left with door prizes by the end of the day, but the real winners may have been the dogs who got to sample hand-made dog treats as a prize for visiting.

It was a late Friday night for the Island Animal Hospital team who stayed up for as long as it took to produce 340 cupcakes for their clients and community members.

By the time the sale ended at 1 pm, there were only about 40 cupcakes left over. Dr. Mitchell said the majority of them ended up going to a community church.

Unfortunately for Dozer, these cupcakes weren’t for him. However, the team had produced some handmade dog treats especially for their patrons’ four-legged friends.

The clinic was full of smiles and laughter throughout the day and, based on the success of this year’s event, the team may have to make even more cupcakes for next year.
