Off the Rock, hockey!
Best of wishes in the New Year as well to all of those playing their home games off-Island. Here is hoping Santa brought you some road-trip supplies from food fortification, electronic device displays or the original road trip tool, books! I am still learning all the kids’ names who are off-Island. Here are a few more players.
Evander Ominika-Shawana, a proud member of the Wikwemikong community, is making hockey waves as a defenceman for the AA U13 Copper Cliff Reds. He has become a formidable force on the ice, known for his powerful slap shot and precise snap shot. His contributions to the team include both goals and assists, but also demonstrating his well-rounded skills, passion and commitment to the game. Go, Evander!
The Sudbury AA Wolves have three Island boys playing this season. Greyson Brewer-Case is their captain, plays defense), Peyton Ominika (forward) and Pahquis Trudeau continues to improve after his coach moved him to defence, where he is thriving.
Last weekend they played a double header in New Liskeard vs the Lions. After Christmas they also headed to Brantford for the Wayne Gretzky tournament!
There is a trio of local lads on the U-10 Sudbury Wolves. M’Chigeeng’s Bryce Debassige and Wiky Boys, Kyree Morrison and N’Wabdasse Trudeau who both play defence.
Also guarding the blue-line are two Wiky girls skating with the Lady Wolves U18-BB squad this season. Shaye Ominika (Peyton’s sister) and Paungbiisohn Trudeau (Pahquis’ cousin).
Kohyn Eshkawkogan, may you continue to establish yourself as an elite D-Man in the OHL! In just his rookie year and just turning 16, Kohyn leads all first year defensemen with 11 points.
Mindemoya’s Jack Bridgeman and his Copper Cliff U16AA Reds teammates are off to the International finals in Newmarket this month after winning the Sudbury Regional Silverstick championships. Have fun, all!
