As the weather warms, things are heating up at MSS! This week we had everything from exciting announcements to athletic achievements!
Get ready to bump, set and spike! The gym heard the familiar bounce of volleyballs again as tryouts for the Co-ed Volleyball team began. Grade 11 and 12 students looking to represent their school showed up ready to play during lunch on Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11, bringing plenty of skill to the court.
Volleyball wasn’t the only sport drawing a crowd! On Tuesday, April 8 the Headstrong group hosted a lunchtime dodgeball game as part of their “Unplugged” event. The gym was packed with students looking to take a break from screens and enjoy some friendly competition. Headstrong strives to promote connection and mental well-being to all students at MSS with frequent events like bracelet making and sports in the gym!
Earlier in the week, on Monday, MSS gymnasts had an outstanding showing at the NOSSA Gymnastics Championship. The Mustang athletes put on a strong performance across both Level 1 and Level 2 events. Marley earned second place in vault and bars, while also finishing in the top ten on floor and beam. Alina took first place on the beam and placed well in bars, and Avery came away with a second place on beam and third on floor. Hazel had a great competition in Level 2, placing second in vault and earning a top 10 finish in floor. The team placed first overall. Good job, Mustangs!
Beyond athletics, there’s plenty of excitement building around the upcoming MSS Spring Formal, set for May 9. The event is open to MSS students only, and the Student Council is asking everyone to help pick a theme. A Google Form is available through their Instagram and Google Classroom pages, with submissions due by Friday, April 18.
As Easter approaches, the school is getting into the holiday spirit with a full week of themed activities beginning April 14. Monday will feature a litterless lunch with tea served in the cafeteria, followed by an Easter egg scavenger hunt on Tuesday. Wednesday brings karaoke to the cafeteria, allowing students to show off their singing skills. Thursday is all about comfort with PJ Day, along with more fun from Headstrong, who will be serving hot cocoa and hosting another round of dodgeball. The week wraps up with a well-deserved break on Friday for Good Friday.
That is all for this week! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
