Cocaine and fentanyl seized by WTPS

On February 28, officers from the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service attended a weapons call at a Wikwemikong Way address.

During the course of the investigation police located a quality of cocaine and fentanyl with a street value of over $35,000, a quantity of cash and other evidence of drug trafficking and arrested a 19-year-old male.

Taylen Wedemire of Brampton is charged with: possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of an opioid for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He was subsequently held for a bail hearing.

Imitation firearm and suspected drugs seized

Two people have been arrested and are facing charges after police received a suspicious vehicle call.

On February, at approximately 9 pm, officers with the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 551 in Central Manitoulin. Shortly after, police located the vehicle on Highway 551 in M’Chigeeng First Nation. Further investigation, with assistance from the UCCM Police Service Commission, resulted in two people being arrested.

Additionally, police seized an imitation firearm, approximately 80 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $8,000, approximately 0.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $20, approximately five grams of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $1,500, and approximately $1,000 in Canadian currency.

As a result, the driver, Brittany Corbiere, 32, from Sudbury, and the passenger, Christopher Ashawasagai, 35, from Sudbury were both charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a schedule one substance-cocaine, possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking-cocaine, possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid. Ms. Corbiere was also charged with operation (vehicle) while impaired, and driver motor vehicle-no licence.

Vehicle in ditch leads to impaired arrest

One person is facing charges after police received a report of a single vehicle collision.

On February 19, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Manitoulin detachment of the OPP received a call about a vehicle in the ditch on John Street in Central Manitoulin. Police arrived on scene and confirmed that the driver was not injured. Further investigation resulted in the driver being arrested for impaired operation.

Terri-Lynn Debassige, 46, from M’Chigeeng First Nation, was charged with operation while impaired alcohol.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on April 1.
