Christmas spirit shines with CMPS food bank donation

0

MINDEMOYA—The students, faculty and parents at Central Manitoulin Public School showed their Christmas spirit with donations for several organizations, but above all the biggest recipient was Manitoulin Family Resources (MFR) for the food bank.

Nancy McDermid, project manager at MFR, gratefully accepted a cheque from the students, which came from funds raised on “dress-down” days, as well as foodstuffs. School staff is also supporting the MFR Christmas Basket Campaign 2013 through a Christmas gift card program. Parents are encouraged to support the program by purchasing a $5 gift card instead of buying their child’s teacher a Christmas gift. This $5 card will provide a holiday meal for a family in need. “On behalf of your child’s teacher, thank you for your contribution,” reads the mail-out to parents. “Let’s share the spirit of the season and make a difference in our community.”

The students making the presentation to Ms. McDermid were hand-picked from different classes and were pupils who showed school spirit and initiative.
