Cheryl quietly left us on Wednesday morning in a hospital in Montreal with her Gordie at her side. During her year and a half long struggle with cancer she was brave, strong, dignified and beautiful. She will be remembered for being the mantle, the matriarch, the centre of the family, and for some the centre of the universe. Her dedication to her family, especially her children and grandchildren, was remarkable. She has left us with a huge hole in our hearts and a flood of memories from her beginnings in the Sudbury area to Europe, Ottawa, Washington DC and to her special beach in Tenaga where she found her peace and spent her summers with her grandson Aben. She leaves behind her husband, Gordon Betcherman, the love of her life; her children Anthony (Scott Starzec), Chandra (Patrick Hines) and Stacey Gibbs; her grandchildren Aben, Finn and Stella; her father William Bryce (late Ruth Bryce, her mother, who passed away only 10 months earlier); her sister Nancy Bryce and brother-in-law Robert Domus; niece and nephew, Kyla and Matt (Nancy) and grandniece, Haileigh; Gordon’s family, Lita-Rose and Irving Betcherman, Michael, Claudette, Laura and Martin and many, many very special friends. The family members would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal for taking such good care of Cheryl to the very end. www.mcgarryfamily.ca
