GORE BAY—Students at Charles C. McLean Public School in Gore Bay have certainly been jumping around a lot lately.

For the past several weeks, Grade 3-6 students have been gearing up for their annual participation in the Jump Rope for Heart event to get in shape and to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“The students have been skipping at recesses for the past three weeks,” said teacher April Patterson who, along with fellow teacher Courtney Lockyer, coordinated the event and the official jump event, held at the school last Friday.

“The funds raised from the Jump Rope for Heart event go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation,” said Ms. Lockyer. “And some of the students, instead of opting for the prizes provided, opted to donate back to Heart and Stroke.”

Students practiced their skipping skills on a rotating basis for the past three weeks; Grade 3/4 students would skip on one day of recess, and then Grade 5/6 students would do the same the next day.

A total of 51 students took part in the Jump Rope for Heart event, and they raised a total of $4,495.20.

The top three student fundraisers included Ryder Lockyer, Bella Jefkins and Abby Witty.
