WIIKWEMKOONG—Two of the four accused in a vicious assault that sent a Wiikwemkoong man to the intensive care unit at Health Sciences North last May appeared in Gore Bay court this week.
On May 9, 2017 at approximately 12:32 am, Wikwemikong Tribal Police responded to a vicious attack in the area of Mshaaboos Lane in Wiikwemkoong.
Four suspects, who fled the scene but were arrested a short time later by the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin (UCCM) Anishnaabe Police, were charged with the following last May:
Angela Filazzola, a 24-year-old female from Scarborough, was charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking, trafficking in a controlled substance and conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance. Ms. Filazzola is currently missing and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
Taun Dixon-Johnson, a 27-year-old male from Toronto, was charged with attempt murder, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, wounding, possession for the purposes of trafficking, trafficking in a controlled substance, conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance, proceeds of crime (under $5,000) and possession of cocaine. Mr. Dixon-Johnson has been indicted and appeared in Gore Bay court on Monday, June 4 for a judicial pre-trial. The charge of attempted murder has been dropped.
Shamar Shaw, a 24-year-old male from Pickering, has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, possession for the purposes of trafficking, trafficking in a controlled substance, conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance, fail to comply with a probation order (four counts) proceeds of crime (under $5,000) and possession of cocaine. The charges of attempted murder and assault with a weapon have been dropped against Mr. Shaw. Mr. Shaw also appeared in Gore Bay court on Monday, June 4.
Billie-Jean Mills, a 23-year-old female from Sudbury, was charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking, trafficking in a controlled substance, conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance and failing to comply with a probation order (three counts). Ms. Mills has been released from prison due to time-served.
