Channel View Drop-In celebrates over 20 years of Christmas dinners

LITTLE CURRENT—For over 20 years, the fine folks at the Channel View Drop-in Centre in Little Current have gathered for a free community Christmas dinner and this year’s event was sold out—with every seat filled. That’s 92 people sitting down to a dinner featuring roast turkey with lots of trimmings.

Channel View Drop-In provides a gathering place for Little Current seniors throughout the rest of the year, with bingo every Wednesday afternoon, a shopping excursion to Espanola on the first Tuesday of every month to pick up those hard to shop for locally items and an open potluck meal on the last Tuesday of the month.

“Tis the season to be jolly,” said Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha. “This certainly was a jolly occasion and it was a real pleasure to meet with all the folks there at the dinner. They had a really good crowd out and it was a great meal.”

The meal was served up by local chef Don Cook.

The Christmas party is for members of the of the Channel View Drop-In, said organizer Bill Martin. Joining the group requires a nominal $10 fee. “The drop-in is open on days where there is something going on. From 12 (noon) until whenever (1:30 or so) on the last Tuesday of the month for the potluck and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm for the bingo on Wednesday,” said Mr. Martin.
