LITTLE CURRENT—A Little Current Curling Club rink has won the Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA) Men’s Provincial Curling Club Championship.
“We’re very excited to win this event,” stated team member Ron McQuarrie, after the club championship which took place at the Espanola Curling Club last weekend. “It will be an honour to wear the Northern Ontario colours in the National Club Championship (taking place in November).”
The local rink included skip Jordan Chandler, vice Kyle Chandler, second Ron McQuarrie and lead Jim Bickell.
The Little Current rink won all three of its games in the round-robin portion of the event, 6-3 over the Belchior rink of Fort William, 6-4 over the Langlois rink of North Bay, and 4-3 over the Assad rink of Copper Cliff. This qualified them for the finals which the Chandler rink won 5-4 over the Travis Belchior rink.
“Every game came down to the last shot,” stated Mr. McQuarrie. “A lot of the veteran curlers who have been in this event previously, said it was the deepest field they have ever seen.”
