MINDEMOYA—The municipality of Central Manitoulin is hosting a municipal public works and farm show on September 13.
“Our roads superintendent Ron (Klingenberg) said that a couple of larger municipalities in southern Ontario have held this type of municipal public works and farm show, but that he has never heard of anything like this in Northern Ontario,” said Alison Sloss, events coordinator for Central Manitoulin, last week. “He said he would love to have this type of event in the North to network.”
“The event will be like a trade fair, but specifically for local municipalities’ public works to come in and visit, as well as farmers, and is open to the public,” said Ms. Sloss. “We are bringing in equipment sales and suppliers with many vendors on hand to showcase municipal roads and building and farm equipment, products and services.”
“The goal is to get information out there as to services and equipment out there and available to municipalities and farm operations,” continued Ms. Sloss. “We are hoping it will be an event filled day featuring exhibit booths, product demonstrations and information presentations from organizations and suppliers across Ontario,” she said, noting that “we are hoping to have tables and vendors that will fill the inside of the (Mindemoya) arenas, and outside alongside the arena.”
Ms. Sloss pointed out as well there will be presentations during the day, with the Ministry of Transportation providing information on road maintenance and presentations being made by Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association as well as others.
“We will have local and some off island vendors showcasing municipal and farm equipment, products and services,” said Ms. Sloss. Agro Mart in Gore Bay will be there as well as Manitoulin Chrysler which will have a booth with a display of its pickup trucks for sale.
There is no charge to attend the event which will take place on September 13 from 10 am to 3 pm at the JH Burt Memorial Arena in Mindemoya. For more information, please contact the Central Manitoulin municipal office at 705-377-5726 or asloss@centralmanitoulin.ca
